• How do air fresheners work? Air fresheners effectively mask or neutralise odours by releasing fresh fragrances into the air. They often use essential oils and perfumes which disperse through their casing via sprays, gels or as a plug-in.
• Can you be allergic to an air freshener? Yes – if you’re particularly sensitive to scents or have allergies, air fresheners can cause sneezing, coughing or headaches. To avoid this, always place your air freshener in a well-ventilated space.
• Does an air freshener kill bacteria? Usually, air fresheners can’t kill bacteria as they’re primarily used to mask or neutralise odour. However, there are some that contain antimicrobial agents which reduce germs and bacteria growth.
